Installing Cctv

Does anyone have any tips, experience for installing your own CCTV. Preferably on a non cable set up and multiple cameras.

Any tips about where to purchase equipment in Chiang Mai or Bangkok and how to set up?

How many cameras and budget did you have in mind as this will help narrow the field down. I assume you mean Internet cameras (wireless). Not completely wireless as still need power supplied to them but you can look here for ideas > Shop4Thai CCTV IP Cameras

Also, do you need standalone DVR (recording) or plan on using your PC for this?

I have been using some equipment from these guys, mine is all cable but they have IP cam's and wireless IP cams too.. They have shops everywhere. I use my own software and a PC, but they also have PVR's that do everything and connect to the internet too, they are also just PC's in reality.

I am looking for an infrared IP cam but don't see one on these sites either. And naturally the contact forms are screwed up. From what I understand, there is no other equipment needed. This camera just needs to be set up to go online and then upload the video directly to a website. Is it as simple as that?

I am certainly no expert on this stuff but as I understand it, CCTV just means "closed circuit television" so it would apply to basically any camera set up you put together. A webcam or IP camera (same thing???) would be a specific type of CCTV camera. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong as I am also trying to figure out how this stuff works to do it myself.

That's prettu much it. CCTV is actually just older terminology meaning that the video would be viewed within the same circuit/area as the cameras.... not being broadcast. No that the internet has made it's way into the picture, just about any CCTV system can be viewed/broadcast online.

Webcam and IP Cams are basically the same. Webcams need to connect to some type of computer to record/process/broadcast the video. The IP camera can do this on it's own. Nothing worth using is truly wireless. There are cameras that have pretty good video wirelessly, but they still require a power source. Either you change batteries every other day, or you have a power wire connecting your wireless camera.

Out of personal experience, I would say stick with the wired systems. They have better video/sound in the basic/cheaper models. Get yourself a good PVR system that can handle more cameras than you need. ie, if you need 2 or 3 cameras, get the 4 camera PVR and if you need 5 cameras, get the 8 camera PVR. Then get some of that beige wire that has four smaller colored wires inside, a lot of electrical tape, wire stripper and some wire hides(things to hide the wires covers, paint etc...)

Each individual camera will need to plug in and the dvr as well. You'll need a min of 5 outlets in one area. Probably best to get a power strip that the outlets are situated at 90% angle from the strip, and with enough space between to fit the plug box.

After that it's all cut, tape and fasten.

Ditto, in addition to having superior video quality on the cheaper models, wired cameras are also more reliable. If they are there for security monitoring purposes you don't want them to regularly fail when your router freezes up and needs a reset for example.

There are wireless RF systems too but from what I have seen the picture quality is just plain bad on the affordable ones.
