Visa Run To Mae Sot/Myawaddy

Featured Replies

Hi, I am British, 40 years old and here on a visa on arrival with my one-year old son also on a British passport. I want to extend for another 30 days at the Mae Sot/Myawaddy border crossing. Given the recent fighting in this area in Burma, there has there been any problems crossing the border and extending here recently?

Thanks in advance

Gingercat

I didn't hear that the border is open again, so do check with Thai immigration that they are indeed open.

Thank you. I rang them, the Burmese side is still closed and Thai immigration have no idea when it will open.

Oh well, off to Mae Sai then!

You will not obtain 30 days at any border crossing - only 15 days. For 30 days you would have to return by air.

I rang Tak immigration today. The Mae Sot border is still closed.

The Karen refugees don't care if the border is closed or not and are expected to continue flowing over the river in even greater numbers.

The officer I spoke with at Tak immigration recommends Mae Sai to foreigners.

Cheers,

Thanks for the heads up. It is as suspected that Mae Sod is still closed, but always good to get confirmation and I'm sure others will appreciate it.
