Planning On Living In Thailand.... But Where?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Im planning on living in Thailand around April for at least 1 year and i was wondering where i should go. Ive actually been in Thailand (Bangkok) for 6 months and i really had a great experience, but its about it. I know Bangkok well but nothing about others areas (Ive heard about Chiang Mai, Pattaya (Actually been in Pattaya for 2 days), and Phuket. What im looking for is :

* I am 23, Gay, so i would like to have a place where i can hang out and meet new people (No need to be like Bangkok, with 4000 gays area and clubs)

* I would like to be in a City with vegetations (Bangkok is nice but its too much like a big City for me, no beachs, always noisy etc...)

* I would prefer a place with not much Farangs

* A place that i dont have to go 30KM to go to the first 7 Eleven.

* Im looking for something around 10k - 20k baht a month (Condo, house, no apt)

Well, thats about it.. Sorry for my bad english, i hope you guys still understood something

If not, tell me and ill try to explain more the best that i can

Rob.

Chiang Mai might be perfect for you. A few gay establishments, surrounding countryside, plenty of 7-elevens and not too expensive. You can easily get western food when you miss it. However, it does have a lot of farangs, but these can be avoided if wanted. That said, having a few speakers of your native language as friends can be a plus, with settling in, with dealing with problems, and just when you want to have a decent conversation wtihout a language barrier.

My recommendation is to cruise around the country and check out these areas for yourself first. That's what I did and it is a fantastic experience. Travel is easy, distances are not too great, and it's relatively cheap. Thailand has a lot to offer and is actually quite diverse. Nothing compares to personal experience. And be sure to spend at least a few days in each area. Sometimes, you have to look a bit deeper to really get to know a place. I've spent months on Phuket island and still don't know it that well!

Have a blast!!!!
