OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA (BNO NEWS) -- The Oakland Raiders have named Hue Jackson as the team's new head coach, who is expected to be officially introduced on Tuesday, the team's official website reported.

Jackson, 45, of Los Angeles, who has coached in the collegiate and professional level for 25 years, was the Raiders' offensive coordinator during the last season and is taking the head coach position after the team recently announced the firing of Tom Cable.

"The fire in Hue will set a flame that will burn for a long time in the hearts and minds of the Raider football team and the Raider Nationk," team owner Al Davis said.

Under Jackson, the Raiders' offense finished the 2010 season fourth in the AFC and sixth in the NFL in scoring (25.6 points per game). The Raiders also more than doubled their scoring output from the previous year, totaling 410 points in 2010.

Earlier in the month, the Raiders announced that they would not be extending head coach Cable's contract, which expired at the conclusion of the 2010 season. He was let go despite finishing off the season with an 8-8 record, which marks the team's first non-losing season since 2002.

Jackson began his NFL coaching career in 2001 with the Washington Redskins. He later coached for the Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons, and the Baltimore Ravens before joining the Raiders.
