Judging by the scorn and vitriol constantly directed at the Reds by many expats I can only assume that they enjoy priviledged positions amongst the Bangkok elite.

I feel really sorry for the poor sod who could not get into his luxury apartment because the road was blocked. Nisa. Firstly I am not sure who "US" is, do I assume you represent a large group of people. Then I am not averse to criticism of the Reds and their ideology, it is the tone of such criticism I find offensive. Both the agenda and philosophy of the Reds and the yellows are evolving. To pretend the past didn't happen is not only silly but a guarantee it will happen again. As for evolving ... Although I don't support any extreme group, I haven't seen the Yellows head back to the airport but seems the Red are intent on using the same failed strategy with the only change being they are doing it more often. Yes, I could see why you want us all to forget about past events such as what the reds every day was a "peaceful protest" back in April. Forgive me if I don't forget as do the embassies putting out warning about their now bi-weekly "peaceful protests"

But why wait for this rally, feel free to go back to past sieges of BKK and show me quotes where they proposed ideas to improve the lives of the poor in this country or showed concern for the people of Thailand as a whole. Okay, they demand early (immediate) disbandment of the government and when told there could be early elections in 6-months they declined the offer. Clearly their only intent was to destabilize the government and it doesn't take a genius to know why ... just look at all the pictures of one person worn and displayed at their rallies and the complete lack of pictures of a non-political person loved and respected by most all other Thais and whose love of Thailand and its people is beyond question by any rational person.

Please do us a favor and show us any quotes coming from this red demonstration that indicates they are protesting for more opportunity for the poor in this country. Back in April they wanted an immediate disbandment of the current government and stated clearly that NOTHING that there was nothing Abhsist could do to change this position They also refused the offer to hold elections early at the end of last year Now they are gathering for the release of jailed leaders who led them to a slaughter and/or to remember the outcome of their violent and lawless siege of BKK back in April.

Lets not pretend they want anything else then what they clearly state and what their actions clearly show

Please speak up for all the inequality but do yourself a favor and don't pretend these reds speaks for the betterment of Thailand Nor should you hate those who have worked hard to make a good life for themselves or have resentment for this who have been lucky in terms of their wealth.

Very well put, Nisa. The poor farmers as well as the urban poor have a legitimate cause, and I fully support that cause. What I do not support is a counter-elite group of wealthy businessmen and politicians who have hoodwinked those people into believing that they represent anything that will elevate their freedom or quality of life. Can anyone cite even one specific example that the Thaksinistas have provided regarding policies or programmes that would do anything for the people they supposedly represent? All I ever heard from those weeks on Red Stage was vitriol and foul language. I truly feel sorry for those poor people who were duped and have suffered as a result.

Bubba.Policies and programs from the Reds are no more substantial or apparent than from the Abhisit government, even the Thai media is starting to notice this. It doesn't matter whether you are red, yellow, in the middle or you simply couldn't give a <deleted>. It's never going going to change. Every year since Mr T was ousted there has been big protests about the government (Red, yellow, pink, blue, brown) every year. There should be a new season added by the government called 'Protest Season'. For the Reds it is always the same time of the year, because it is the quietest time of the year for farmers, and it is the time when there is the least amount of work to do.

I agree with a lot of people on here about their views and feelings towards the Reds. It's bad enough getting around Bangkok at the best of times, but with a protest on, must be a nightmare. But for those that state their grievances on here about the Reds and the chaos that they cause around Bangkok, those same people shouldn't forget the grievances that were forced upon thousands of paying tourists.

Please don't post about the Reds paying for votes and paying for people to protest. It happens on both sides. The yellows were camped in for 6 months. Could you afford to protest for that long with out an income.

IMO who ever comes in at the next election (when ever it happens) will still be hated by one side or the other. The protests will still continue and most importantly, it will give us all something to talk about. I only hope that in my heart that both sides or all fractions can peacefully come together and point Thailand in the right direction. I love this country and it breaks my heart to see powerful figure heads within Thai society use others to insight hatred upon their own personal foes in order to gain an upper hand.

Don't create hatred, Break it. 'Keep Thailand Smiling' should be the new political force in Thailand. Fingers crossed anyway.

Nisa, if you can show me where I said "pretend the past did not happen", I will be amazed, nay stupified. Indeed I suggested that past events were a lesson to both groups, they have seen where they went wrong. Chiang Mai police arrested a front line member of the Red Shirt group - who bombed four places in San Kamphaeng district, according to the Provincial Police Bureau, Region 5.

I wonder how Red the families of these girls would remain once their daughter explained how she can't send as much money back home because her tips as a "waitress" have gone down significantly due to farangs not wanting their money to end up supporting people involved in the red movement.

Regardless of debating whether anything any group did in the past justifies the actions of an opponent group, to answer your question: yes, hundreds of yellow shirts have been arrested, including one of the key leaders, Chamlong Srimuang in 2008. Also in 2008, at least 80 yellow shirts were arrested for the NBT station takeover. Others have been arrested for the airport takeover, including five of the leaders last October, and two just this week.

Well I have to agree with you that most expats don't know how democracy is meant to work. I personally can not think of one country where it works like it is suposed to. They all have a little twist to it.

Try having a major rally every second week outside Buckingham Palace or in Oxford Street and see how you go !

These thickheads don't seem to care that the workers in these mega malls shops are mainly poorly paid workers fron areas they claim to represent.How many were out of work when they burned the buildings down and how many peoples lives wil be affected by this latest nonsense. Want to rally go to a football stadium.

What about the workers at the two airports???? and not to mention the government house??????????? All the money that went back into it to make it nice again? I guess thats all right. These <deleted> have no consideration for anyone - and why is it the 8 people burned to death in the Central World arson have never been mentioned in the "91 killed' ??? Red Scum are running amok again and it needs the army to round them up or prevent the blockage of the city. Enough is enough - especially when you live in the towers around the area and cannot get in or sleep due to the insane noise from stages and speakers. When will Thailand wake up?

As this topic continues, there's a question I would like to ask.

Does any one really know what the Reds or Yellows are fighting for?

I, like most read this forum and like most follow the press. I also talk to as many people as possible about the situation, but every one has always told me a different side and a different point. Does any one actually have an unbiased view of the problems that are happening now.

Really wish you would keep spouting off with false information. First of all, I am in no way a supporter of yellow shirts or the airport seizure, but just to get the facts straight, there was no real physical damage to either airport. Nothing was even stolen from them including duty free. In fact, I had a flight the first day it re-opened, and everything looked completely normal. The check-in agent at TG told me that she had left in haste the day the takeover occurred, forgetting her laptop which she left under the counter. When she returned to work, it was still there.

As for your "go get 'em reds", you sound like you are lowering this to the level of some sort of football game. I guess it would be a re-match though. The Reds did in fact "go get 'em" in May. Look at what they left after their seizure of downtown.

From what I understand, the reds are fighting to bring back Thaksin, although they like to tell people that they are fighting for democracy and for the poor, but I don't know how that fits in with their fight to bring back Thaksin.

And this time around, the yellows are protesting over a small piece of land near/in Cambodia.
