Too Much Sitting/ Anyone Got A Standing Desk?

Featured Replies

Standing desk -------Will try to buy or have one built. Sitting is not becoming my health. Anyone has one, experience, self-design?

I've found that our refrigerator is the perfect height for this.

Maybe next year when Ikea open their shop in Bangkok you'll be able to find one in Thailand.

Take an adjustable chair and during the day adjust its height several times, that will change the blood flow. Also take regular breaks and stand up and walk.

I have the same concern over sitting too long in front of computers and a while ago asked if anyone has seen these on sale in BKK:

That too would be better with a taller desk, but I was planning on buying tubular steel to extend the legs of my existing desk.

My wife was concerned about me being in front of a PC to much - she saw something on the TV about it. I told her don't worry - I get up every twenty minutes and go to the kitchen. Some how that was the wrong answer.

I would go for a modification of your desk legs - one that you can removed and make it normal again. Or rises and lowers as desired.

A friend in CM who tried to save his neck this way modified his desk, and after few hours standing he canceled the plan.

I have the same need as a result of years of back problems.

I much prefer to stand while I am doing desk work.

My solution at my desk at work was to use several empty boxes

that our A4 reams of paper come in and stack them to a good height

for me. Two boxes have worked well for height. Another two and I now

have 2 platforms; one for my laptop and another for the papers I am working with.

The boxes are easy to move around and the bottom one I usually fill with

papers to give it stability so it does not move around easily.

The boxes also double as storage space.

And I can dismantle the boxes in a few seconds to clear the desk

if I want to work sitting down.

When I do have to sit down, I use a small pillow in my chair at the very lower

part of my back and it stabilizes and makes my back much more

comfortable. I do this with all my chairs; TV, Laptop at home,

kitchen chair for eating with family, etc.

The saddle stool should be easy to duplicate, what I will add is a small back rest covering the hip area. This more relaxing for long hours.

Similar to my motorbike seat.

For the standing desk Ikea was a good reference

Thanks

I have found that a wedge shaped pillow with a bite out of the high end works for me. I used to have alot of back pain from sitting at the computer for many hours a day but this pillow takes the pressure off my tail bone and prevents most of the resulting pain. I got this in the US but Amazon has them online. http://www.amazon.com/SEEN-SESMC6-Solution-Orthopedic-Cushion/dp/B000136P8C/ref=pd_sim_hpc_3 The cushion is not perfect as it flattens out with alot of sitting but still seems to do the job.
