New Honda Gps

Featured Replies

Guys,

Please can anyone tell me what map they have in the New Honda Accord. My wife is buying it and wants to take it on a trip to KL and she wants to know if it comes with a ONLY Thailand map or is it a Asia Map............if Thailand only is it a Garmin or Speed Navi map and can you put a new map on a SD card???

Thanks in advance

Certainly would need to know what brand GPS comes with the Accord. Have you tried asking the Honda dealer your questions? GPS units and maps are usually proprietary to the auto manufacturer when installed as factory original equipment.

Then it's probably a ESRI Thailand Street Map. Thailand only! You might, and I emphasis might, be able to get a Garmin City Navigator Southeast Asia NT map on microSD/SD card to work. Contact ESRI (Thailand) Co. Ltd. and ask them.

The Unit in the 2011 Accord is not Garmin, it's NAVTEQ. But there are 6 flavours of Accord in the Thai Market. Separately Honda offer a GPS accessory on all their models which may be a Garmin...

The 2.0 NAVI and 2.4 NAVI nodel have the NAVTEQ unit built in. They told me it only comes with Thai Maps.

As far as I know NAVTEQ is a digital map provider, if they also sell the actual GPS unit that would be something new. However, NAVTEQ does currently supply the maps for Garmin.

so does that mean I can add a Malaysian map to it or not, its a 2011 2.4 Honda Accord??

Thanks

If it's a Garmin GPS you have four choices:

1. Contact ERSI (Thailand) Co. Ltd. and ask them if you can add maps and how. They will have provided the original map and are the Garmin representative in Thailand. Customer Care: 0-2266-9948 e-mail: [email protected]

2. Buy a Garmin City Navigator Southeast Asia NT map on a "plug & play" microSD/SD pre-programmed datacard.

3. Download City Navigator Southeast Asia NT map from the Garmin website to a microSD/SD datacard..

4. Download City Navigator Southeast Asia NT map from the internet and generate your own unlock code.

NOTE: Steps 2-4 are not guaranteed until you try. A couple of previous posters have reported success in adding a map to a Garmin GVN installed GPS, but it can take quite a bit of computer work depending on the required unlock codes.

Thanks for your help, I will let you know how I get on.

I will have a play with the missus' 2011 Accord and see what can be scoped out also.

Personally I don't even have a car (MRT fan) but I will hijack hers and poke around a bit. There's a USB port I will plug into and see if we can shed some light on this. If they are Garmin maps that would be awesome (could save a lot of money).

Great; I am stuck on an oil rig in the middle of Angola right now and wont be back in Thailand for a month or so, so any info up front would be great

Thanks again
