Married To A Thai

Featured Replies

Hi I'm married in Thailand to a Thai staying on a ONE YEAR extension based on marriage and about to be offered a job in Thailand that will last about 3 months.

The subject of work permit hasn't been raised yet, but I want to be legit. Can anyone advise what I should tell my employer to to go get me legal and what it will likely cost them extra to get me legal. I understand my stay permit is ok as is (can anyone confirm) and I just need a work permit?

If you are intending to work you must have a work permit to be legal, if you have a non Imm O Visa you are allowed to do this.

Digitalbanana, I believe it is the employer who has to apply for the work permit for you, but you may have to sign the application form, too. I have not looked at the form for a long time and the links I have are dead or the website of the Department of Employment is down at the moment.

Regarding your visa status, you don't need to change anything. Your current extension of stay for living with your Thai wife (marriage extension) allows you to get a work permit.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Ok thanks guys. I'll push the employer to get this sorted next week before I agree to work for them.
