Non Imm B Issued In 2008

Featured Replies

My cicumstances are a bit complex but here is the background;

I obtained a non imm B from Vientaine on 26th Feb 2008 for work purposes and after getting a work permit I obtained a 1 years extension of stay in May 2008.

Unfortunately the company I worked for went bust in January 2009 and upon surrendering my work permit I was given a 60 day extension of stay as I am legally married and I immediately applied for a married persons extension of stay which was granted on 6th May 2009.

This was renewed last year and expires on 6th May this year however due to several unforseen expenses I will not have the required 400k to renew the married persons extension this time round.

I will however be starting a teaching job on 1st May for which a work permit will eventually be obtained but I am concerned how to extend my stay until the work permit is granted.

I live in Khon Kaen and need to know whether I can do a one day trip to Laos and get 90 days based on the Non Imm B granted in 2008, or could I just go to K.Kaen immigration and get 60 days on the basis that the work permit should be granted within that period.

Alternatively do I need to get another Non Imm Visa?

Any advice would be most helpful

Your Non Imm B Visa died years ago.

Immigration will give you a 60 day extension to visit your Wife.

KL Malaysia will give you a Multi Entry Non Imm O Visa if you have at least 100,000 Baht in the bank. This would give up to 15 months but would need a border run every 90 days.

You can work with this providing you have a Work Permit.

Thank you for such a quick reply.

So in brief I can get 60 days from K.Kaen on or before 6th May.

As I dont really want to travel to K.L. can I go to Ventienne armed with work papers and get a non imm B, as I did for the last job, and then apply for extension of stay when the work permit is granted?

Vientienne will issue a single entry Non Imm B if you have all the paperwork plus the Work Permit application receipt.

You can get the 60 day extension based on having a Thai wife. If you get a job and work permit witin those 60 days you can apply at immigration for a 1 year extension of stay based on your job, if the job qualifies for that.

Only if it takes longer do you have to go abroad and apply for a new visa.
