Is the "Abortion Pill" available in Thailand?

Mifepristone (also known as the abortion pill, RU 486, Mifegyn, Mifeprex) is a drug used to preform a medical or non-surgical abortion. Anyone know if it available in Thailand?

I ask the question on behalf of a person in the Philippines where they are not openly available and this party would like to avoid the black market.

Its a pity they don't Educate Thai girls /women about sexual transmitted deceases And how to avoid them , Most Thai Lady's think wearing a condom will stop anything. What about health issues caused by sexual acts apart from intercourse. all down to Education.the rest follows. that includes men who do not wearing condoms who basicaly dont care as long as they get what they want.

I am flying to the Phills within the next 48 hours so the timing will work out. The plan is to use a FDA approved Mifepristone/Misoprostol regimen. A party is looking for a legitimate health care provider who can supervise and or give direct care during the process.

I am looking for a good quality source of Mifepristone and Misoprostol to avoid counterfeit medicine that might be found in the Phills.

Madonna (and other brands) is not an abortion pill, it is emergency contraception (AKA "the morning after pill"). Has to be used within 72 hours of unprotected sex.

The OP is asking about something altogether different; he is asking about what is called "medical abortion". These are 2 drugs which are legal in many countries for use in inducing miscarriage in early pregnancy.

Please see pinned notice about abortion laws in Thailand. Abortion is not legal on demand in Thailand, only in instances physician licensed to practice medicine in Thailand determines it to be necesssary for the mother's health.

Mifepristone (which is actually 1 of 2 drugs used, RU-486 etc contain both Mifepristone and misoprostel) is not available in Thailand.

Misoprostel is available for use in the management of gastric ulcer under brand name Cytotec but legal only with prescripotion, probably because of concerns that if sold OTC it might be used to induce abortion. Sale of Cytotec without prescription in Thailand is illegal both for seller and buyer. In addition, it is potentially quite dangerous for exactly the reason alluded to by 1 poster: risk of hemorrghage, which is exactly what the second drug not available here is meant to avoid.

You will not be able to get what you want in Thailand. You can get it in Cambodia where abortion is legal on demand and a Ministry of Health approved, quality controlled brand of Mifepristone + Misoprostol has recently been introduced. However I suspect it would be illegal for you to bring it into the Philippines. You should also be aware that, even with good quality preparations taken correctly, about 15% of women will need surgical back-up (due to incomplete miscarriage).

Seriously, the best and safest advice for all concerned is for the woman in question to travel to a country where this is legal and obtain this/do this under proper medical supervision. From the Philippines, Singapore or Cambodia would be bclosest. In Cambodia, stick to an MSI (Marie Stopes International) clinic.

An idea well thought of, the problem is she does not hold a passport as of this date. Right now in the Phills you need to make an appointment to apply for your passport (1 month + wait) and then wait 3 more weeks for it to be processed. The earliest she can get a passport (we checked) is going to be the end of March.

The progress of her pregnancy is within the FDA approved Mifepristone/Misoprostol regimen time frame. If we wait till the end of March, that will bring up a whole new set of 2nd trimester risks.

Why haven't the MODS closed this topic. What is being discussed and/or recommended is illegal in Thailand.

What is illegal about anything that is discussed? i ask about the availbilty of some medicine. A discussion about what the medicine is, what it is used for and the the availability of the medicine in Thailand ensued. Edited by passport220

No visible posts discuss breaking any Thai law, on contrary, what the Thai law is, has been clarified and reinforced, and a misconception (no pun intended!) about drugs which are legally sold OTC in Thailand was clarified

If you are referring to post#2, it clearly states this was in a hospital, and thus there is nothing to indicate it was an illegal occurrence. Please see pinned notice on Thai law re abortion.

We are, however, at a dead end in terms of being able to advise the OP further. Advice on the safest, legal options has already been given.

You are a resident in NORTH KOREA? If not, I think you will blend in well there! tongue.png
