PAD Wants Written Request From Thai Govt To End Rally

I'm becoming more and more convinced the goal of the PAD's present protest is a coup in order to wipe out their looming prison sentences. As their cases proceed, albeit at a snail's pace, it's obvious the leaders will receive no protection from the next government, whether it's the Democrats or Pheua Thai.

A coup which wipes out previous crimes in the name of 'reconciliation' is their only hope.

h90If know the history than you should know that the current count is 4 unpleasant governments. And the rats come again and again. It is not Chamlongs fault that one corrupt government after the other comes in semi (semi at best) democratic way into power.

Chamlong was instrumental in bringing Thaksin to power, Chamlong regarded Thaksin as the role model for a Thai politician.

Time has proved beyond any measure of doubt that Chamlong was indeed wrong in his thinking.

This current administration is possibly one of the best we have seen over the last twenty years to my knowledge.

What or who is it to be replaced with ?

When one looks at the opposition and those who wish to aspire to power I see many rabid self serving corrupt people just hovering over Thailand waiting to feast on the Thai people and the carcass of democracy which will be all that remains in the event of the return of or reincarnation of the last tainted bunch of political cowboy bandits.

In step the military, and the merry go round goes on spinning, the road to democracy is indeed a long one.

It has taken my home country since Magna Carta to try to get it right and the U.K is still trying after all of those years.

Until such time as the system of patronage and vote buying and the pursuit of personal gains ceases to exist there will be a continuance of the current practices.

Irrespective of the colours of the shirt one may wear on ones back. It is the colour of the money in the demonstrators pockets that dictates Thai politics.

Best in 20 years? OK, I think we can stop the discussion here, I thing we have a complete different view on what is a good government.

In my opinion:

Anand

Chuan

Chuan 2

Thaksin 1 (not 2)

Surajud

were better.

WHY?

Exactly.

If you gave Abhisit and Korn the good luck and financial good times most of the above enjoyed, they would done even better than they have done in the worst of times and factors arrayed against them.

PAD Continues to Pressure PM over Preah Vihear Temple

A core leader of the People’s Alliance for Democracy has continued to pressure the prime minister to protect Preah Vihear Temple, reiterating that Cambodia is trying to stick to the 1:200,000 ratio map.

A key member of the People’s Alliance for Democracy Sonthi Limthongkul has continued to urge Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to reclaim the disputed 4.6 square kilometer land surrounding the Phreah Vihear Temple, as the area is vital to Thailand's sovereignty.

He stated that Cambodia continues to adhere to the 1:200,000 ratio map, as the document gives advantages to Cambodia regarding territorial waters.

He noted that if Cambodia is able to seize the 4.6 square kilometer area, it will mean that Thailand acknowledges the 1:200,000 map and must abide by it eternally.

Sonthi called Abhisit a “coward” for not protecting the interests of Thailand, and accused the Thai prime minister of being hypocritical in his brave efforts to seemingly protect Cambodia.

He reiterated that Cambodia wants to hold on to the benefits gained from its agreement with former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra over territorial waters.

He said Thaksin and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen had reached a consensus before Thaksin was ousted.

Sonthi argued that if Cambodia manages to declare ownership over the disputed area, the agreement will come into effect immediately.

He questioned why it's so difficult for the prime minister to revoke the Memorandum of Understanding from the year 2000, saying the MoU clearly does harm to the nation and benefits the former Thai prime minister Thaksin and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.

Two activist groups to discuss their moves after receive CAPO orders from police

BANGKOK, Feb 12 -- Two activist groups which are holding separate rallies in the Thai capital against the government in its handling of the border dispute with neighbouring Cambodia are due to hold talks Saturday evening after received the Center for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) orders from police.

The decision to hold talks between leaders of the Thai Patriotic Network (TPN) and the ‘Yellow Shirt’ People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) came after senior Bangkok police officers, led by Metro police deputy Chief Pol Maj Gen Kririn Inkaew, submitted two orders issued by the Center for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) to PAD core leader retired Maj Gen Chamlong Srimuang banning people and vehicles from using roads around the Government House and the Parliament.

The Cabinet on Tuesday endorsed renewal of the the Internal Security Act (ISA) from Feb 9-23 in seven districts around Government House to provide the legal framework for containing intensifying protests. The CAPO two days later issued two orders banning people and vehicles from using roads around Government House and Parliament.

Gen Kririn said later that although the orders have been reinforced, police have not yet imposed the deadline for the protesters to disperse. He said police would coordinate with leaders of the two groups before taking any punitive action.

On the part of the PAD members who have been camping on Ratchadamnoen Nok Avenue, near the Government House, since January 25 demanding the prime minister and his entire cabinet to resign, Maj Gen Chamlong said he and his members would not leave the rally site and were willing to surrender to police if they tried to break up the rally.

Another PAD core leader Prapan Koonmee said CAPO orders were not issued by a court but by the ISA which is illegal and PAD members would, therefore, continue their protest.

The PAD has accused the government of mishandling the ongoing border dispute with Cambodia which has led to bloody clashes between armed forces of the two countries last week. (MCOT online news)
