Hog Head Posted February 11, 2011 Share Posted February 11, 2011 The 4th annual Chiangmai ToyRide in aid of disadvantaged children is Feb 20. No admission charge: just bring along a new toy to warm a needy child’s heart. The Chiang Mai ToyRide 2011 will meet at 9:45 am at the Tesco Lotus-Kamtieng, which is located on the Super Highway (Rte 11) just north of the city. This years route will be a 52km. ride of approximately one hour duration. It will parade through the heart of Chiang Mai and Thapae Gate. We will head south following the scenic Ping River, then circle back and enjoy the mountain view as we head north along the Canal Rd. to the party site at the X-Centre Zorb Ball site in Mae Rim, for an afternoon of games for the kids and music for the adults. All motorcyclists are invited to join the event whether their bikes are large or small, and we hope to see you there. The description is of last years route and the map reflects this years route, avoiding all the construction along the river. That was our original plan until we were made aware of the ongoing construction. Also, for those attending, there is our "Best Decorated Bike" contest with prizes given at the event. 10 bikes are selected at Tesco Lotus, and then voted on by the attendees at the event. Best decorated means the best decorated in a toy ride theme using toys or other items. Any motorcycle can win, it is about the decoration not the motorcycle. Use your imagination. This is a really popular event with the Kids and while we have 2 TV Volunteers currently, two more painters would be great. Come out, have a fun day, and help disadvantaged children. After the ride there is going to be a party at the X-centre with the kids plus live music, food etc. So even if you don't have a bike please come along for that. I lead the ride every year and will do so again this year. There was no "shooting off" by the big bikes and in fact there was a little Dream type bike and a Phantom right behind me at the departure. Once again I will give a 5 minute warning that we are preparing to leave and to get your helmet on and be ready to go - perhaps you missed this part last year. Volunteers will Marshall the bikes so that departure is orderly, however each rider needs to pay attention and to be ready to leave on time. There will be a police escort in front and in the rear to try and keep some semblance of order and keep the group together. We are trying to get more small bikes to participate in the ride as they are the majority of bikes in Thailand. Given that our goal is to get as many riders as possible, in order to help as many kids as possible; it follows that the ride would cater to smaller bikes and not "shoot off" leaving them behind. In any case, it is pretty difficult to shoot off with the cops in the front. This year I am leading the ride on my Royal Enfield Bullet, so at an alledged 22 Hp there most assurdly will be no shooting off. Ride speed will be such that a Honda Dream type bike can keep up. If you have some constructive comments on how to better organise the event we would love to hear them, and perhaps you could volunteer to help marshall the start so that no one is left behind. I think you will find that alot of people complained that on canel road they all shot off, I didn't mean at the start. But the police made it impossible to keep up has after the big bikes went through the lights they were reset and most of the little bikes got caught at the traffic lights. In an earlier post you even said that this happened. Im not saying that I could organise it better I am just saying what happened last year and wishing good luck for this year and I hope things go well. We think that is part of the fun.... staying in a TIGHT Group with all the other riders. I'm sure it will be the same this year and we look forward to seeing you all there. Because our Bike is so LOUD we normally ride in the BACK. Again thanks to everyone that joins the ride and to all the Sponsors that makes it possible. Wow,i will be there with camera in tow.Royal enfield bullet! I will take photos for my dad back in blighty who builds british bikes.i rembember him reconditioning a bullet,then rebuilding a 68 triumph bonneville, a 72' norton commando,and a bsa gold star. lol i only have a yamaha fino...but he did warn me off bigger bikes ps will there be a website with photos showing.I remember n1 bar being involved before,but no adveritising this year which is a shame Edited February 18, 2011 by Chiangmai Foxy Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Thailands finest are supposed to control every traffic light and let all the bikes through together. In spite of the great deal of practice they get holding up the average Somchai every time some self important politician needs to drive to the airport; this seemingly simple task appears much too difficult to perform for us lowly Bikers. Hopefully they will perform a bit better this year, and if not, ignore them and drive straight through. I was unaware that this happened last year, however we will see about getting some experienced riders to block the intersections just in case Mr Plod cannot do his job. vacationman Posted February 20, 2011 Share Posted February 20, 2011 GREAT TOY RIDE this year. Thanks to all the sponsors and workers that make it happen. The ride was the BEST YET. The speed was good... allowed everyone to stay close together and made it very enjoyable. REQUEST... since I was at the BACK of the PACK all day didn't get a chance to make a Video of everyone RIDING BY in a group. If anyone got a good video of the group riding past and would be willing to share it with me that would be great. Want to make a Video of the Days events and this would be something that would be nice to have. Thanks in advance for your help if you know anyone that got video footage of the group riding.
