Hello everybody,

I have a question regarding marriage in Thailand and my situation is the following: My boyfriend (English) and I (German) have planned on getting married this year. But now I got a German teaching position offered in Thailand and I would love to take it.

We have now both decided to move to Thailand together and postpone the marriage a few months as we now do not really have enough time to pop by the registration office here in England and we do not want to rush it.

Does anybody know if it is possible for European couples to get married in Thailand and if so where would we need to go? We are not planning on having a ceremony as our families won't be able to be there with us. We will make up for that when we are back home in a year. It is really just for the two of us and about the exchange of the rings, the YES, a little kiss and the certificate.

Can anybody help please?

you both need to get Affirmations of Freedom to Marry as the first thing, then get these translated, then after translation take them to the MFA (Chaeng Wattana), after this you can get married in Thailand at the Amphur.

Note: The affirmations are made with your respective embassies.

Obviously there's also the option of getting married at the embassy (or both, if that's your preference). You'd still need the Affirmations of Freedom to Marry from either the UK or German embassy (depending on where you marry).

@ prefabs

Well I don't think posting comments like that is really helping anyone. If you feel the need to patronize people/ foreigners because of linguistic slips, you might want to rethink your value for this forum. No hard feelings... just cut it love.

@ beano

Thank you very much for your help!!!
