Dunno if this is the best place for this. If not please can someone transfer it to the proper forum?

We had a memo round yesterday from On High in the language school I work for, saying not to try to get a 90 day non-immigrant visa B at either Penang or Cambodia as they were not being issued any more, although the standard 30 day visa was.

We were advised to go to Laos instead where they were still being issued.

Anyone have any further info on all of this?

Cambodia has always been funny about them so no surprise there.

Penang has recently got funny (and require hard to get paperwork) about them.

Laos used to be funny about them but now seem to be easier than they were.

Singapore is cool.

But as a tourist Visa can be converted to a Non-imm B (although most schools aren't aware of this) if a WP isn't on the cards right away it would make sense IMO to get a triple tourist from Penang and that gives you around 9 months to have it converted into a Non-imm B to get a work permit.

Also the info is incorrect as Penang generally doesn't/can't issue 30 day tourist Visas (as there's no such thing for us Westerners (generally depending on nationality), rather it's a 30 day on arrival stamp, or a 30 day stamp in.

There was just a 5 page series on the problem of getting a B visa in Penang and this now seems to require a conformation document that the firm you work for is a real company and is called W3. Steve was kind enough to provide example links in post #53 of THIS LINK

Jeez, I hate the clunky way this forum makes you reply!!

Still, here is the more accurate info I have. I was not quite right in my earlier post.

Here's what the memo said - 'In Cambodia, the Thai consulate has informed our office that 90 day non-immigrant B visas will only be issued to Cambodian nationals so foreign teachers should not come to cambodia seeling the non-immigrant B visas. The 30 day tourist visa is still available.

In Penang, the Immigration dept has been requesting a WP3 form for all foreign visa applicants. This is a m#Ministry of labour form and is not part of the package supplied by [the school]. The local Immigration Department did not know about this form and Penang's request.

A few teachers have recentl;y gone to Laos and were successful in getting their 90 day non-immigrant visas. Please contact [the school] before making any visa trip to get the latest information.

Also, the fine for late reporting of the 90 day address notification has been increased as reported by Mr [name]

Maybe this makes it clearer than my OP>

Anyway, I shall move this thread to the appropriate area of the forum not I;ve discovered where it is. :o

Any further information on what exactly the increase has been?

Dunno. I don't even know what the '90 day address notification' IS! Can anyone explain?

People that are staying on one year extensions in Thailand have to report their address every 90 days.
