Best Way To Get To Vientiane From Bkk Late At Night?

I'm going to be in bangkok on the evening of the 15th feb and an thinking about going to Vientiane to get a tourist visa, and then later returning to Chiang Mai. Friends flight is 02.30 am morning of the 16th and I want to see her off at the airport.

There's like two flights I can take in the morning. 7am to Udon Thani and like 9.30 am to Vientiane. However I'd have to basically sleep at the airport.

Is there any bus or train that leaves after midnight from BKK to Udon Thani so I dont have to wait till the morning? I cant seem to find any schedule for that destination.

Basically, I need to get to Vientiane from BKK, but the time of departure is like around midnight so that prolly sucks for me and then after an overnight stay in Vientiane go to Chang Mai. I'd rather not spend a shitload on plane tickets, but 200 usd from bkk to vientiane at 9.30am in the morning might be worth it if I just find a cheap hotel near the airport?

You can use one of the Visa Run services for 4 to 5k baht and this includes everything including the thai tourist visa, the entry visa into Laos and them handling all the paper work as well as spending a night in the hotel and meals. Keep in mind you need to stay overnight for a tourist visa.

I recomend http://www.thaivisaservice.com/

They go every Sunday and Wednesday and leave at 730 PM from BKK. You can always catch a flight to Chang Mai and not return with them

Might be worth giving a call to them too and make sure there are no current problems getting a double entry tourist visa in Laos.

Sorry, after I posted my browser crashed but then reread your post and see I misread your goals and time table. I was focusing on the cost aspect.

Nakorn Chai Air does not have route BKK-Udon.

But there are plenty of other bus companies which provide service to Udon.

However, the earliest bus to Udon will be around 7 in the morning, so about same time as the earliest flight.

Looks like the best solution is to sleep at the airport....

Or sleep at the bus station....
