Iran and Turkey to boost bilateral trade to $30 billion

2011-02-15 08:41:20 GMT+7 (ICT)

TEHRAN, IRAN (BNO NEWS) -- Bilateral trade between Iran and Turkey would reach $30 billion this year, said Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during Monday's press conference in Tehran, Iran.

The announcement was made during a joint press conference with Turkey's President Abullah Gul, who is currently on an official four-day visit to Iran, the Tehran Times reported.

Ahmadinejad noted that last year's trade numbers between Iran and Turkey reached $10 billion, but he vowed that comprehensive cooperation would boost bilateral trade between the two countries to $30 billion.

In addition, he predicted that the countries' most important cities - Tehran and Ankara - would turn the region into an important cultural, political, and economic area.

Both presidents expressed mutual support and said they discussed several topics including Iran's nuclear program.

Gul expressed satisfaction with the meetings held so far, underlining that the governments of Islamic countries must listen to the people's demands. If governments do not take the people's voice into consideration, they themselves would take action, he stressed.
