German expat found dead in Patong

PHUKET: -- A retired German man was found dead on the sidewalk in front of his rented home in Patong on Sunday night. Police say the body was discovered by neighbors at about 6:30pm.

Harald Rainer, 69, had lived in Phuket for about a year.

Police Sub Lt Pattapee Srichay told the Phuket Gazette last night that Mr Rainer was found with a bottle of drinking water at his side, but that neighbors had told the police he had been drinking at a bar nearby and had returned home about two hours before they discovered the body.

Lt Pattapee said there was blood on Mr Rainer's forehead and that he had probably slipped and fallen on the cement. There were no indications of violence.

Pisitkoranee Road, where the fall occurred, was lined with parked cars and there were no known witnesses to the fall.

The body is currently at Patong Hospital for investigation, including a test for alcohol level, if any.

Except the blood on his forehead which may have been from a bludgeon :whistling: , just wanted to edit properly  ..

But it is possible he had an event (stroke or MI) that caused unconsciousness and then banged his head as he fell isn't it, instead of slipping on dry concrete?
