Star Alliance starts offering class upgrades

BANGKOK: -- Star Alliance yesterday started offering a frequent flyer programme upgrade redemption option to travellers who fly across the spectrum of member airlines rather than on an individual carrier basis.

This enhancement is now available from members of the ANA Mileage Club, which includes Austrian Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines. Other Star Alliance member carriers will start offering the upgrade option in 2006.

Star Alliance Upgrade Awards permit customers to redeem miles or points from their frequent flyer accounts to upgrade by one class – either from economy class to business class or from business to some participating carriers’ first class.

Wow - took them long enough to catch up with the other airlines.

I wonder if I will ever be able to redeem my 1.8 milion miles I lost when Ansett was sent under.
