Twitter suspends UberTwitter, UberCurrent and twidroyd apps

2011-02-19 02:24:19 GMT+7 (ICT)

SAN FRANCISCO (BNO NEWS) -- The popular social networking website Twitter on Friday said it suspended three popular applications due to policy violations.

Twitter said in a statement released by its Support department that UberTwitter, twidroyd and UberCurrent had been suspended. "We ask applications that work with Twitter to abide by a simple set of rules that we believe are in the interests of our users, and the health and vitality of the Twitter platform as a whole. We often take actions to enforce these rules," it said.

Twitter gave no details about which policy had been violated by the applications but said it suspends "hundreds of applications" daily. "Generally, these apps are used by a small number of users. We are taking the unusual step of sharing this with you because today's suspension may affect a larger number of users," the statement added.

UberTwitter was a Twitter application that worked for both the iPhone and the BlackBerry phones. UberCurrent worked for the iPhone while twidroyd worked for Android phones.

They were suspended for trademark issues if anyone is interested. Twitter objected to "twitter" appearing in the names of the applications.

Some are back today. UberTwitter is back, re-named UberSocial.
