The Best Way To View These Forums

Hi all, I'm using an iPad as my main Internet medium at the moment, there's not much I can do about it. Also I'm doing it over edge, and it's very painful. When this month runs out I'm going to go with true move's 3G. Since my page loads are slow and time consuming, I've been trying to refine the way I view this site/forums. But I haven't come up with a suitable solution.

In viewing each of the forums, you can see when new posts are made and click on the little orange arrow and skip straight to the first new post. Handy.

Emails due to watch notifications work sometimes too.

I like the watched topics/threads under my settings, that's great because all the things I am most interested in are in there, but you can't jump to the first unread post, you can only see the individual pages or last post (not sure about that, I'd have to reload a page to check)....

Another view I like is the new content, but it grows very quickly, and includes everything, not just the topics you're interested in.

I'm just curious as to how other people keep tabs on what they want to read, not read, disregard etc etc.

One thing I would love to see would be a "mark this topic/thread as read" to the side of the topic in the "new content" view, and a way to see all my watched topics in one place and let me jump to the first unread post. I'm think there is probably a way of doing these things, I just haven't seen them yet. Any ideas on how better to navigate around in this situation (tabbed browsing is virtually non existent on the iPad, and pages reload consistently).

Thanks and hopefully I can get some useful tips from you guys and girls.

Regards

There is a mobile version of Thai Visa which I get on my HTC android. Work out how to get to that with the Ipad.

And, you'll probably get better advice in the Computer forum.... maybe a mod can move it over.

Easily done.. look at the bottom left of this page, you will see a dropdown with skin options (currently says "Thaivisa2").

Select "mobile".. voila !

Edit - looks like this only puts the index/new posts in a mobile format.. the thread view is the same. (not sure if that's the same as you see on the HTC ?)

The board software has to have the phone profile in its library. It detects the phone type then uses the profile information to format it correctly on the phone. Believe it bases it on the OS that the phone uses such as Symbian, Android, etc and the browser itself. On my HTC Desire, the mobile works perfectly (auto detect) with both the default Android browser and Dolphin but doesn't with Firefox 4 for Android.

Ah, thanks for the explanation Tywais, makes sense now. :)

I just started using a RSS reader, like FeedDemon. It's really nice as you can easily go through all the forums and read every heading on the article in just a few minutes. If you've never tried a RSS reader before, it's fairly easy. You just look for the little RSS icon and click on it, then get the URL and add it to the software. It then sucks the feed of the forum down (and usually many other sites by default) and then you are notified by the software of new posts.

There are a bunch of RSS readers, but I suggest FeedDemon and Newz Crawler
