Hotels/guest Houses In Pedang Besar

Featured Replies

Hi

I'll be heading back up to bkk soon and would like to stay overnight in Pedang Besar - Malaysian border town on the railway.

Just wondered if anyone knew if there are any hotels or reasonable guest houses there ?

If you do then could you let me know :

* Name

* Approx price you paid/heard

* What you thought/know about the accomodation

Also if anyone has any other comment about Pedang Besar, would be interested to hear.

Oh is there a post office there ?

When I came down to malaysia, PB seemed to be bigger than i thought it would be.

Cheers

Quite a few varied searches on the net have thrown up nothing, zilch, squat - all i could find was a few places in the capital of perlis or 1 hotel in alor setar. Was hopeing to stay in padang besar...

Still going to go there any way and see what there is...

Hi,

There was no accommodation when I got stranded there going Thailand to Malaysia at night in 1996. Just made the border crossing before it closed and had a meal in Padang Besar and managed to get accommodation at the restaurant.

Someone just vacated their bedroom and they moved me in, cost 20 ringatt. Pretty basic.

It's a nothing town not worth staying there, I'd get across the border before 4PM or so and catch the local bus to Hat Yai. Bus takes just over an hour about 25 baht or so (was 18 baht in '96). Bus stop is on main road just as you come from the border post.

Cheers.

The Padang crossing is few kilos outside the town. Take a motorboy 30 bahts to Padang town. Lots of mid class hotels 400-500 range. All of them are nice and clean business class. And countless karaokes and many disco clubs. Padand Besar is a small version of Dannok Changloon which is the main crossing to malaysia nearby.
