10,000 Baht For Single Re-Entry Permit!?

Featured Replies

Using a US Passport

Been in Thailand for 5 years 4 of which have been on Thai Wife Non-Immigration Visa

Have an Annual Work Permit

Applied for this year's Non-Immigration Visa and has been "sent to the Chaeng Wattana" office for Boss's Approval

at time of application, and receiving the usual 1 month extension waiting for the Visa, I received a Single Entry Permit

Found out that I need to travel again before receiving my Non Immigration Visa and will be out of country during time Non Immigration should come in.

Went to the Pathumthani Immigration Office today, and requested a Re-Entry Permit to travel again and a possible additional extension of 1 month until I return.

Was handed a calculator from the Police officer showing 10,000 baht requested.

This seems like a high price to pay and something I've never come across before.

Recommendations are welcome.

Usually a Multiple Entry Permit is around 3.800baht? So why am I being asked for 10,000 Baht?

A single costs 1,000. Might be just a typing error.

You really need to be in Thailand when you are scheduled to appear for extension of stay issue or obtain a new visa entry and start again when you return. Nothing lost is starting again unless you plan to apply for PR.

@lopburi3, is it within the system to get another month extension and get another re-entry permit right now, while I'm in the country? And if so, how much $?

No way that I am aware of. You can easily get another re-entry permit for your current permitted to stay stamp for 1,000 baht but the under review is a return on date to obtain final extension or get a new permitted to stay under review stamp.

@Mario2008 - Possible but my wife confirmed with the Immigration officer that she was asking for 10,000baht. Some info I just recieved from my wife when I asked her this was: the fee requested was for speeding up the annual Visa stamp and included 3,800baht for a Multi re-entry permit. So this helped me understand. My wife also added, that the 6,200baht additional was for their "pockets". We have no proof of this though. This was what my wife understood.

You have to talk with immigration. Maybe they can cancel your application and give you a 60 day extension based on having a Thai wife with a re-entry permit on that. Once you return you apply again for a 1 year extension of stay.

That would mean losing the 1,900 you paid for the extension, pay another 1,900 for the 60 day extension and 1,000 for the re-entry permit. And again 1,900 for the new 1 year extension of stay.

As said, no idea if immigration will do that. Otherwise you would need to get a new non-O visa while abroad and return on that.
