Hello,

two weeks a go i stayed in a guesthouse close to Kanchanaburi. For breakfast they serve a very delicous honey. The owner explained me it is wild honey from the jungle.

An old women comes from time to time to sell some bottels to him. I ask the owner already if he can buy a bottle for me, but he denied because it so so rare.

Cause that honey was so tasty, i must always think about.

Anyone an idea where i can buy this kind of honey in BKK or around?

Thanks

Alex

I "thought" pretty much all honey is natural (no preservatives) ... just put it in a jar sealed jar and store it. I wonder if the taste has to do with some sort of specific bees it comes from.

Edit: You got me curious cause I am into using honey over sugar. It looks like this is literally called "Jungle Honey"

I found this video on Youtube but it (at least at this moment) seems to cut off halfway through.

I have a place up near Loei and make the run to Bangkok about once a month. Most months there are loads of roadside vendors selling that crap. My neighbor farms sugar cane and he tells me much of that roadside "honey" is distilled from sugar cane and/or high fructose corn syrup. So at least it will be sweet.

The taste of honey is made by the flowers the bees use as source to make the honey, i.e. the blossoms pollen. The special thing with jungle honey is, that there are only few flowers in the jungle so the bees have to look for another source. The bees thief the milk from ants which milk aphids. That's the special taste the OP spoke of, and yes it is rare, very rare

The taste of honey depends of the flowers the bees pollinate and take the nectar from. Honey is always 76-80% glucose. When honey looks clear it means it is heated and have lost some healthy elements like fructose, pollen and mineral salts.

I want to know too.

May be that explain the special flavour, Normaly i am not a big fan of honey. For me it is a way to sweet . But this jungle honey was a kind of flavor explosion

It tasted sweet and sour, very fruity and a little spicy. It still make make my mouth watering :w00t:

I will be gratefull for any infromations.

There is a brand of thai honey called "5 Month Honey". It apparently comes in two varieties: one is from cultivated bees and the other from wild bees. You should be able to find the honey in OTOP shops around Thailand and possibly health foods stores such as Lemon Tree. Although the OTOP shops may be more expensive, I would think they would be less prone to using sugar water and the like. The alternative is buying honey off the street with the honeycombs still in the bottle.
