NEW YORK (BNO NEWS) -- The body of the pilot was found in the cold waters of the Hudson River in New York after he crashed a small airplane on Saturday afternoon, the Federal Aviation Administrations said.

Michael Faraldi, 38, was piloting a BAC Strikemaster 167 - of Dragon Aviation in Castalian Springs, Tennessee - when the small aircraft suddenly lost power, causing the it to nose dive into the Hudson River on Saturday just before 3 p.m. local time. Officials said the plane made a low bypass over the Kingston Ulster airport before making a 90-degree crash into the icy river.

After unsuccessful search efforts on Saturday rescue teams were finally able to recover the body on Sunday afternoon after maneuvering through mud and ice.

The small aircraft was loaded onto a barge and will be inspected by the National Transportation Safety Board .
