TUNIS, TUNISIA (BNO NEWS) -- Three ministers on Tuesday resigned from the Tunisia's interim government following the dismissal of the prime minister over the weekend, the state-run TAP news agency reported.

Industry and Technology Minister Afif Chelbi, Regional and Local Development Minister Ahmed Néjib Chebbi, and Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Ahmed Ibrahim left the caretaker government.

Chebbi said that due to the absence of solutions within the government he decided to present his resignation to government led by interim President Foued Mebazaa. He also mentioned the weakness of the caretaker government and political parties as factor.

Furthermore, Chebbi remarked that the recent insecurity and social unrest was caused by the political vacuum the North African country is presently witnessing and warned that Tunisia might stray into the wrong path.

On the other hand, outgoing minister Chelbi said that his decision was taken as part of his patriotic duty to contribute to the success of the government of the recently appointed Prime Minister Beji Caid Essebsi to whom he wished success.

"This Government which should be the subject of a national consensus and benefit of the maximum support of civil society components, constitutes the last rampart to save the country from chaos and achieve the goals of the Revolution," said Chelbi.

In addition, Chelbi called for the caretaker government to safeguard around 700,000 industrial jobs and achieve tens of pending projects, notably in the interior regions, in order to ease social unrest.

On Sunday, former Prime Minister Mohamed Ghannouchi resigned from the government after saying that a 'conspiracy' was being hatched against the Revolution. Immediately after the unexpected resignation, Mebazaa appointed Essebsi as the new PM.

In January, former President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali was ousted after weeks of violent protests over economic issues. The interim leadership announced the formation of new government of national unity that included members of the opposition and led by Ghannouchi.
