Farang Food Recipes

I was reading the Bangkok Post and they had what looked like scrumptious farang food recipes, but I don't have the ingredients to make them here...? Maybe in Bangkok it would be possible but I am on Koh Phangan where imported ingredients are more scarce. Does anyone have any good farang food recipes they use with the commonly available Thai foods (herbs, veggies, etc)? So far I have managed to make grilled cheese, spaghetti, and salad & that is about it....

girlx, substitute substitute. Also, check out both Limpipong's the big one and the one on the corner. They are getting quite a selection in. The one on the corner has spinach pasta, organic veggies (husband bought some avocado last week) and some good olive oils, etc.

I got the same problem in Suphanburi where ground beef (mince) is impossible to find. Thus, no bolognaise, chilli con carne, meatloaf, etc...

Ehhhrrrmmm.........Beef.......Meat Cleaver..........Chopping Board........Elbow Grease..............Voila, Ground Beef ! !

actually, I was thinking about investing in a food processor with a meat grinding/sausage filling attachment...someone said on another thread that they got them in chinatown in BKK...absolutely essential for a range of falang type dishes

tutsi, if you get a good meat cleaver you can often chop your beef finely. Suphan doesn't have a Makro or Lotus? They usually carry ground beef.

meat cleaver is a nice thing, but to get real good hash, you'll need a machine, either manual or electric - havn't seen them in LOS yet. :D:o

at least as important as this are the spices, like paprika!!!, pepper, and so on!

without them it's just similating farang food - unfortunately they can not be bought here, at least not the real ones! - have to be imported!

don't have any friend who flies to europe once in a while?

they arn't heavy, easy to carry :D

nope...not at Tescos in Suphan they don't. Samatter of fact I've never seen any beef (steaks, roasts, etc) there either. They got beef at the market in the town where we live, tough as old boots. A guy there had a meat grinder he used for pork mince but refused to grind up any beef.

If you can get potatoes (man farang) you can make hash brown potatoes or scalloped potatoes (you said you have cheese) or french fries or baked potatoes or mashed potatoes. Jello with fruit....or without. Pork chops with mushroom gravy. Oyster stew. Hollandaise sauce for vegetables....or Bernaise sauce if you can get wheat flower. Oysters Rockefeller. Clam chowder. I don't have recipies but you can find these easily on the web I would think. That's all for now...dinner time....I eat Thai food....my wife's the cook.

French toast, garlic bread, bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich....alllll kinds of sandwiches.....chipped beef on toast (SOS)....stuffing to stuff a chicken....fried chicken...chicken stew with dumplings......you really need to get some wheat flour next time you go to a bigger city and bring it back with you......again...google for recipes.

I am actually having a meat grinder/mincer/sausage maker sent to me by my nephew in BKK.I believe he is getting it from chinatown and when he does actually get around to sending it to me,I will get the address from him and post it here later on this month. As far as the minced beef is concerned(for those who dont want to fork out on a mincer),there are places that you can order it from. The name, address and Tel No are as follows:-East West Trading & Agencies LTD-Head office is:-35/2,Soi Yen-Akart road,Chongnonsee,Yannawa,Bkk 10120,Thailand.Tel-022874643/4.Phuket branch:-29/107 Moo 2,In Chuan Chuen Lagoon,Thepkasattree road,Khaokeaw District,Amphur Muang,Phuket.Tel-076238010.Pattaya branch:-279/107-72 Moo 12,Jomtien beach road,Nongprue,Banglamung,Chonburi 20260.Tel-038233222/4. if you want to talk to someone that speaks good english,I would advise you to call a woman named Lek,her mobile No is-066828089.She is based in Phuket, but will probably be able to help you sort something out with one of the other places. They also supply lots of other Farang ingredients,so maybe you should ask for a full list of the things they sell.I hope this is helpful to you all.B.F.N. You can buy meat grinder/sausage stuffers almost anywhere in Thailand for about 2,000 baht....it has a small table with the grinder and an electric motor built on it...they're in small hardware stores everywhere in Thailand that I've ever been or that my Thai wife has ever been.

Farang food: Omelets of every type imaginable. Custard. Pudding. Tapioca pudding (saku).
