Iranian committee says Israel played role in Tehran's unrests

TEHRAN, IRAN (BNO NEWS) -- An Iranian fact-finding committee on Wednesday revealed that Israel has played a direct role in stirring unrests in Tehran, the Fars news agency reported.

The committee was set up by the Iranian parliament to study the recent unrests in the capital. The report presented by the committee also indicated that Israel officials admitted their role and backup for the February 14 unrests.

Israel and Iran have been engaged in conflict and allegations in recent time. The differences between both countries originate in their support to opposition leaders and the Israel-U.S. close relationship.

"Since several years ago Mossad (Israel's Intelligence) has entered a dangerous clandestine war against Iran's nuclear program both in terms of human resources and technology," added the report.

In January, Iran's Intelligence Ministry arrested 10 suspected Israeli spies and dismantled spying rings after an operation for locating a Mossad network. The ten arrested individuals are Iranian nationals.

In addition, Iranian police forces arrested a group of terrorists with alleged links to Israel who were suspects of the assassination of an Iranian nuclear scientist in January 2010.

One of the detainees admitted that they were trained by a number of Israeli officers near Tel Aviv. Iran has blamed Israel for having a direct role in the murders of scientists, experts in nuclear energy, perpetrated last year.

Iran has since claimed that both Israel and the United States have hatched numerous plots to stop its nuclear progress through different measures, including sanctions and assassinations of scientists and university professors.

On February 14, two protesters were killed when thousands of anti-government protesters clashed with security forces. Then, on February 20, one person was killed after security forces opened fire on protesters denouncing the government of President Ahmadinejad.
