Los Angeles International Airport steps up security after attack in Germany

2011-03-05 04:06:07 GMT+7 (ICT)

LOS ANGELES (BNO NEWS) -- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Friday said it has stepped up security for U.S. service personnel who transit through the airport after an attack at Frankfurt Airport in Germany.

Marshall McClain, president of the Los Angeles Airport Peace Officers Association (LAAPOA), said the airport has increased its security, but provided few additional details. "Though the target in Germany was clearly the U.S. military, terrorists’ targets can just as easily be civilians as they most recently were in Moscow. It’s our job to thwart such attacks," he said.

The attack in Germany happened on Wednesday afternoon when a gunman opened fire on a bus carrying American soldiers. Two U.S. airmen were killed and two others were injured.
