B Visa Question

Featured Replies

I currently have a work permit which will expire march 26, but my B visa does not expire until Sept 17.

My employer at present does not require my services, they will do late this year, but we have agreed that we will not renew my work permit until the end of the stated visa date, but the company will keep the visa active.

Can this be done?

As I always though if you cancelled a work permit it automatically cancels the Visa and you then had 7 days to leave the country.

But they have advised that I can still stay in the country on the normal provisions of the B visa but cannot work because I do not have a work permit.

The company has stated that they would be happy to renew my B visa at time of expiration as they will probably need my services again and then re-apply for a work permit late this year.

Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks.

It's your extension of stay based on working that is canceled by immigration upon loss of employment. A non-immigrant "B" visa that has not expired remains valid, but you would probably need to do a border run to get a 90 day 'Admitted Until' stamp.

If you have a Visa it is still valid.

If you have an extension of stay it dies the day your employment finishes. You have to leave the country the same day or apply for a 7 day extension. 1,900 Baht.
