Can moderate (edit, delete, etc) any topic in any form, as opposed to local moderator who can only moderate a given forum. Local moderators seem to get global privileges after some time.

Yup ^^^.

Used to be called "Super Moderators" but the name was changed a while back as Global was thought more descriptive. We also get a few more buttons to harass the masses with :)

Whilst not automatic, promotion (some would not agree that it's a promotion) does seem to happen once you've been a Mod for a while.

And then the next promotion (demotion?) after Global Moderator is to become "Admin" then "Root Admin" - although that top level status doesn't have a particularly grand sounding name...
