webfact Posted March 10, 2011 Share Posted March 10, 2011 WEALTH 3 Thais on Forbes billionaires 2011 list By The Nation Three Thai businessmen managed to maintain their names in the Forbes billionaires 2011 list, despite the emergence of many new billionaires particularly those from Asia. From Thailand, Charoen Pokphand Group's Dhanin Chearavanont and family is ranked the 152nd, with networth of US$6.5 billion. Chaleo Yoovidhya is ranked the 208th, with networth of $5 billion while Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi takes the 247th, with networth of $4.3 billion. Mexican telecom tycoon Carlos Slim Helu is the richest person in the world for the second year in a row, with a net worth of $74 billion. He is also the biggest gainer on the list, with a stunning $20.5 billion increase since 2010, widening his lead over Bill Gates to $18 billion. According to the Forbes 25th annual ranking of the richest people in the world, the record 1,210 billionaires have an average net worth of $3.7 billion, up from $3.5 billion in 2010, and a record total net worth of $4.5 trillion. This year, 214 new billionaires join the list. Ikea Founder Ingvar Kamprad, is the year's biggest loser, down $17 billion to $6 billion, dropping 151 rungs from the 11th to the 162nd. Among the Top 20 billionaires on this year's list, all but one saw a rise in wealth from 2010. The one exception is Mukesh Ambani, who dropped from 4th place to 9th place on this year's list, down $2 billion from $29 billion to $27 billion. Casino magnate Sheldon Adelson (16th), skyrocketed back into the Top 20 from the 73rd spot in 2010; his wealth jumped $14 billion to $23.3 billion, up from $9.3 billion in 2010. For the first time in more than a decade, Asia records 332 billionaires on the list, which exceed the European number of 300. China and Russia have more than 100 billionaires each, with 115 and 101, respectively. And Moscow is now home to more billionaires (79) than any other city in the world. New Russian billionaire Yuri Milner, the 1140th, joins other Facebook newcomers Sean Parker, the 782nd, Eduardo Saverin, the 782th, and Dustin Moskovitz, the 420th, on this year's list. Moskovitz is also the youngest billionaire, at age 26, by a matter of days. Mark Zuckerberg, the 52th, and Peter Thiel, the 833th, round out the "Facebook Six" on this year's list. The United States continues to have the most billionaires, with 413. In the U.S., Bill Gates retains the 2nd spot with a net worth of $56 billion, up from $53 billion in 2010, followed by Warren Buffett, the 3rd, with a net worth of $50 billion, also up $3 billion from 2010. Europe's richest person, Bernard Arnault, moved into the 4th spot with $41 billion, up $13.5 billion in the past twelve months. In multiples, this is serious money. That means the Ikea guy must have spend 510 million a day every day last year then to lose 17 Billion. People just do not want to listen to all the charitable organizations and events under the Bill Gates' family sponsorships and such.... You are correct.... Gates gave away billions each year.... to dropped to second place in wealth counting is nothing to be ashamed of.... because of charitable givings.... The fortunes of all three Thai billionaires have improved over last year. Ranked No 1 in Thailand for two years, with a net worth of US$6.5 billion (Bt197 billion), Charoen Pokphand Group's Dhanin Chearavanont and his family are ranked 152nd in Forbes' 25th annual ranking of the richest people in the world. Last year, net worth of $2.1 billion put him at 463rd. Chaleo Yoovidhya is ranked 208th, unchanged from last year. However, his net worth rose from $4.1 billion to $5 billion. Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi takes 247th place with net worth of $4.3 billion. His net worth rose significantly from $2.9 billion last year, when he was ranked 342nd. According to the magazine, Dhanin and his family's stock investments in their three largest shareholdings more than doubled over the past year. The operator of 7-Eleven stores, CP ALL rose on higher profits and successful expansion, while food producers Charoen Pokphand Foods and PT Charoen Pokphand rose on demand from China and high-margin food sales. The family also owns the country's third-largest mobile phone company, which recently took over Hutchison Telecom's Thai operations. The wealth of Dhanin's three brothers, also believed to be billionaires, was added to his total worth. Chaleo continued to reap benefits from energy-drink producer TC Pharmaceutical Industries, which two decades ago created Red Bull in cooperation with Austrian Dietrich Mateschitz. Each partner owns 49 per cent of the company. Chaleo's son, Chalerm, who owns one of Asia's leading wine producers, Siam Winery, holds the remaining 2 per cent. In building up Red Bull, Chaleo provided the formula for the beverage while Mateschitz contributed marketing flair. Last year, TC sold 4.2 billion cans of the drink, the most ever. Chaleo's family also holds a sizeable stake in Piyavate Hospital. Charoen, the son of a Bangkok street vendor, made his fortune selling inexpensive beer and whisky. He controls Thai Beverage, Thailand's largest brewer and distiller, best known for Chang Beer. Thai Beverage was listed in Singapore in 2006. Charoen's privately owned TCC Land owns Bangkok's famous tech-mall Pantip Plaza and Hotel Plaza Athenee in Manhattan. It also owns other hotels in Asia, the US and Australia, as well as residential, commercial and retail buildings in Singapore and Thailand. Source Claims Thaksin's Wealth Valued at 400 Billion Baht 29 June 2010 A source has said the Center for Resolution of Emergency Situations or CRES has discovered that Thaksin Shinawatra has some 300 to 400 billion baht worth of assets. The source added that CRES has information that shows Thaksin's wealth is scattered around the world in different forms. Some of his wealth is said to be earned through nominees. He owns a joint venture that operates a satellite concession in India and another joint venture with a telecommunication firm under Temasek Holdings of Singapore. The source said Thaksin receives one million U.S. dollars in profit from a mobile phone business in China and earns billions through his nominee in Dubai. He receives more income from funds in Kuwait and telecommunication businesses in Myanmar and Cambodia. He is believed to be generating 4 to 5 billion baht in profits a year, and has in total 400 billion baht worth of total wealth. Perhaps, on this you ought to ask; the Thai education dept just how many computers and software have had been donated by Gates' network in Thailand; the medical dept just what have been contributed by Gates' groups; just to mention two that come to mind at the moment.
