I am planning to marry my Thai girlfriend in July this year. I met her 3 years ago and then my father became ill and I had to give up my job to be his carer, sadly he died this October. Being 50 and having a few health problems I have had difficulty

finding a job. I now worry very much that her marriage visa will be rejected on the basis I have no job. On the plus side I do own my house and have a fair amount of savings ( over 30k ). Can anyone tell if her visa application will suceed or not?

I would call your embassy and ask what income is needed, to show that you can support her. Also as in Canada you may have to sign a form to guarantee her, that you will provide for her, so that she does not go on welfare for a minimum of two years.

No one on this board can say whether any particular application will be successful or not; the best we can do is give you an opinion on the chances of success based upon our experiences and knowledge of the system and what you tell us of your and your partner's circumstances.

Each application is judged on it's own merits, and if the Entry Clearance Officer is satisfied that on the balance of probabilities the criteria for the visa are met, then it will be issued.

What you have to show is that you will be able to support and accommodate your and your wife without recourse to public funds (although you can claim any public funds to which you may be entitled, you cannot claim any extra due to her living with you).

There is no absolute minimum figure of income and/or savings required as each case is different and, as said, is judged on it's own merits.

See Maintenance and accommodation.

When you say "marriage visa" what do you mean? Will you be marrying in Thailand and then she applying as your wife; or will she be applying as your fiance and you then marry in the UK? For the former you must show that you are already married, for the latter that you will marry within 6 months of her arrival in the UK.

For where to apply, fees etc. and details of the TB test and English test requirements, see UK Visa Application Centre.
