Gps Navigator

Featured Replies

I am looking for a GPS navigator which can be powered when not connected to a car. I need to be able to walk around with it (while it is being powered from the battery)

I also need it to have maps in English and to be able to be synced with a mac

Which one do you recommend? How much does it cost?

Thanks

I can not recommend more highly the new Garmin Nuvi 3770.

I have been using Garmin GPS's for about 10 years and upgraded about 2 months ago to this one and am wrapped. It's suitable for driving, riding & walking and has several languages & voices including English, Thai, Indonesian etc

You can buy it in Bangkok from Gadget Trends 2nd floor Amerin Plaza for around 15K Bht

Good Luck

I have Garmin Nuvi too but only paid 7k for mine in MBK (probably different model number) but does everything you have asked for and as described by Rabbi

I have the Garmin Nuvi 3760 which I'm very happy with. I purchased it overseas so it came preloaded with the map of the country i bought it from. It has a micro SD slot on the end for additional maps.

I needed a Thai map and found a good shop in MBK with a large range of maps. I Systems 4AA-0061 4th Floor Soi C Tokyu zone MBK center. If you go to MBK don't bother asking at other shops as they either have no idea or recommend the shop I listed.

The maps range in price with a Thai map priced around 2,000B (maybe less)and other world maps varying in price up to 5,000B. They come on Micro SD card so it's easy to swap maps to the country you're using it in. The original preloaded map stays installed on your GPS.

Unfortunately he was unable to install Thai Street Map TSM 11 as he said my GPS was too new. (He did try TSM 11). I purchased TSM 10.1 which appears to be good enough for what I need. I'm impressed with the accuracy as it even shows when I've changed lanes.

I get about 3 hours usage from the internal battery on normal information settings. There's a power slot which allows portable charging although I've not tried it yet.

Mine is the latest model and is probably the most costly but I went for it because it has all the modern features including TCM [Traffic Control Management] which I have found fantastic in BKK as it warns me of traffic conjestion and offers alternative routes to avoid them. It even seems to able to tell what level you are on when using the BKK motorways, frontages under & overpasses which previously caused incorrect decisions by the user. It also has a facility where it splits the screen and shows the upcoming intersections, lanes and indicates which lane you must take.

All in all very happy and Cadgettrends are the ESRI agents in Thailand and can attend to any maps and the girls are very helpful

Cheers

It has been reported that Thailand Street Map (TSM) V11 cannot be loaded onto a foreign purchased Garmin 37XX. The Thailand purchased Garmin 3770 is the only 37XX model compatible with the TSM V11 map. Older Garmin nuvi GPS units may work with the TSM V11.
