Please read this sentence:

'Pavements taken over by street vendors provoke most complaints by Bangkok residents. They bemoan howese stalls removee joy of walking and howey must puteir lives at risk asey have to walk on traffic lanes instead'

Pretty bad eh? That school-kid needs to concentrate more in class - or change his teacher

Actually, I copied this text from a local news article that I saw on the Bangkok Post web-site.

Does that newspaper employ anyone to check for correct English, grammar, punctuation??

Actually a case of a misdirected find and replace during word processing. Certainly should have caught the errors but I do not think the errors are grammatical in nature.

It's pretty bad but it could be touch-typed and unchecked.

I see typos and mistakes in The Guardian all the time.

and the nation, and most other newspapers...... untill they pay the staff to check it will happen again and again ,,,, but how much would it cost a englih techer to check????

Jeez...just look at the Post's website today. Without clicking on anything I picked up 2 errors. And within those articles are a bunch more. Easy stuff, too. Unreal. As "The world's window to Thailand", they are showing a pretty poor side of this beautiful country. Proof readers can't be that expensive!!!! :annoyed:

It's cool that you cracked the puzzle. I too tried reading th BKK post, specifically Post Bag, and found many errors, and your code-breaking would explain it.

Go to the website now and looking at the box for general news. I found several on the front page and many more inside. Much worse than just a find and replace mistake. Really sad....

I read Postbag most days. Today's was unreadable because of these errors. A once-in-a-few-years mistake. Their grammar... I agree, but The Nation's is far worse.

Isn't there a saying about people in glass houses shouldn't call a kettle black?

Careful.. making Negative remarks about The Nation can get you Banned from This Forum... It's in the Rules.

Also even mentioning that Other Larger Bankok English Newspaper is also a NO NO !

Bearing in mind this country's lip service to the learning of the international language that is English, I would have thought that a fluent/proficient proof reader 'over their budget'. Kee niaow.
