Hot Topic Vocabulary

Following the news coverage on the tragic events going on in Japan, I noticed lots of mistakes in the use of e.g. the term radiation (instead of radioactive material).

In German, the problem is enhanced by misnomers like Radioaktive Strahlung (radioactive radiation, meaning ionizing radiation). But I observed similar mistakes e.g. on CNN.

Thai language seems to show similar imprecisions in that field as German. I collected a few relevant words which I found in various dictionaries. Please feel free to add. I'm particularly interested in the words 'radiation dose' and 'dose rate' (often there's confusion when 'per hour' is omitted from 'milli/micro/nano-Sievert per hour'), 'fuel rods', 'spent fuel', 'containment vessel', 'cooling chamber', 'plume'.

พลังงานนิวเคลียร์ - nuclear energy

(รังสี)เอกฃ์เรย์ - x-ray

รังสีแกมม่า - gamma rays

โฟตอน - photon

รังสีเบตา/เบต้า - beta rays

อิเล็กตรอน - electron

รังสีอัลฟา - alpha rays

ฮีเลียม - helium

ระบบระบายความร้อน - cooling system
