ABAC Poll: Thailand´s happiest people live in Suphan Buri

BANGKOK, 21 March 2011 (NNT) – Suphan Buri is found to be the province that people feel the happiest to live in while the paradise island of Phuket ends the chart, according to a recent survey by the Assumption University Research Center (ABAC Poll).

The poll’s Academic Network for Community Happiness Observation and Research (ANCHOR) conducted the survey with residents in all 77 provinces across the country from February to March 2011. They were asked which province they feel the most happy to live in.

The central province of Suphan Buri has the highest score of 7.83 points out of the full score of 10, followed by the central province of Uttaradit, the southern province of Phang-Nga, the central provinces of Sukhothai and Phetchabun with 7.66, 7.56, 7.50 and 7.44 points respectively.

The sixth to the tenth on the chart are the southern province of Satun, the northeastern province of Buri Ram, the central province of Phitsanulok, the eastern province of Sa Kaeo and the northern province of Phayao.

The last five provinces on the chart are Samut Songkhram, Krabi, Saraburi, Songkhla and Phuket with the score of 6.45, 6.41, 6.40, 6.32 and 5.64 points respectively.

its their amazing roads. I was in Suphan years ago and was absolutely amazed at the perfect roads. Of course, you knew once you entered the next province as they immediately got small and bad.

I vaguely remember from many years ago when Banharn Silpa Archa was prime minister that Suphan Buri was his province and for some reason it became known as Banharn Buri as most of the road building budget seemed to go in that direction.

Mind you I may have been wrong or had a memory dump but.....

Nearly right . Its correct name was and still is Banharn Jamsai Buri. And even before he became P.M., it received a disproportionate amount of funds. A word starting with "C" springs to mind!!!

I'd be curious to know what the real average emigration rate would for the likes of Suphan Buri. I can imagine that such research might be overlooked.

Is there a link to the actual poll results? I have been looking but no luck.

Do a Google search for the title:

ABAC Poll: Thailand´s happiest people live in Suphan Buri

and the article will appear (at the top I believe).

I, for one, am most skeptical of ANY poll, especially one such as this that places one region above another as far as happiness and desirability to live there goes. Regardless of what criteria used to conduct the poll, the results can be manipulated in all sorts of ways to fit the preexisting "expected results" of the poll takers.

Before I could accept a poll's results, I would want to read the questions asked in the poll, know the cross section of people asked, and things like that. Results would certainly be different if only college kids or working class people were polled when compared to, say, old farts like me.

Maybe some Farang on this forum should conduct the same sort of poll (for expats only) to see what area of Thailand is most desirable for Farang to live in. I would think such a poll would result in chaos as the answers would be driven by biases of all kinds.

One should be suspicious of all conducted polls of any sort. As we usually don't of course, as they're still looked upon as a legitimate mews items, a sort of officialdom, and looked upon as some measuring tool to reflect how society is thinking. We've become hypnotized as to the acceptance of any and every sort of conducted survey and poll - which are universally <deleted>.
