I'd stay at one of the mid range hotels in Bencoolen Street and walk to Bras Basah station and catch the MRT to Orchard station and walk to the embassy (take about 20mins all up) Check Hotel Ibis, Hotel Bencoolen, Bencoolen 81 Hotel, Summerview Hotel.
