KARACHI, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- Ten people on Monday died and 80 others were injured in a road accident involving multiple vehicles in southern Pakistan, Ary News television reported.

At about 9:00 p.m. local time, three buses were involved in a pileup after colliding with a trailer on the National Highway near Bin Qasim Turn in Karachi. The three passenger buses involved in the accident turned over.

The accident occurred as a NED University bus crashed into a trailer belonging to a steel factory. The incident caused a pileup involving two other buses. A huge container carried by the trailer fell on one of the buses.

Police officers and paramedics were rushed to the scene. The National Highway was closed. The injured individuals were transported to the Jinnah Hospital and the Agha Khan Hospital.

Police officers were aided by local residents in the rescue efforts. The cause of the accident has not been determined and an investigation is ongoing.
