Well, here thebig ones:

Avis at the airport

Budget opposite airport Plaza

Hertz at the Chiang Inn

National at the Amari Rincome

There are a large number of local renters, some have better reputations than others, you will find some of them here:

http://www.chiangmai-chiangrai.com/2_travel_car_rental_chiangmai.php a few more here

http://www.chiangmai-online.com/vehrent.html

One of them will have a spare motor I am sure but as to the condition and as to whether it comes with a driver................................

Thanks, the big ones all require a credit card which I don't have.

The guy from Nong (moat near beginning of Loikro) where I rented hundreds of times, before and after I had my own car in Thai, he's fully booked as well, at least that what he says. Maybe he prefers to rent to tourists who don't know the rates.

Glad to hear you have found what you were looking for.

Just a word of advice, please do check the car carefully before you sign for it in case there is any pre-existing damage their fleet appears to be made of of shall we say "not so new cars". Also check the insurance situation is up to spec.

Have a nice dry Songkran
