91 Year Old Australian Proclaims His Innocence In Thai Rape Cases

is this still going.or has it gone to court yet.it happened last year and still find it hard to believe

Still going. Lets face some common logic. If they had a case and could prove it in the court of law they would have put him infront of the judge by now. Like I said earlier. They are probably waiting for this old geezer to keel over in jail so they can fleece him rotten once he is gone.

It is very funny that a lot of farangs have been crying for respect from the locals when some of them often behave like scumbags. It is delusional to think of themselves as paragons of decency when some foreigners behave like this in Thailand. Just to remind a lot of people on this fourm that most locals don't think highly of farangs when it comes down to their sexual proclivities.

This farang isn't too enamoured about the sexual proclivities of many Thai men either. There is no shortage of unmarried mothers or abandoned wives in Thailand.

If the locals don't like what the tourists get up to all they have to do is close down the bars and massage parlours. They might even go OTT and close down the village bag shanties too.

Just to be clear -- you think the ratio of perverts is higher or lower amongst asians than westerners?

If there are real photographs of him naked and with naked children , I wonder if the parents were there at the time. The 91 year old stated he was never alone with them . I hope the police can track down who the other kids are if not the ones in question.

Rape doesnt just mean he used his own appendages.

Fears for man, 91, in Thai child sex case

The family of a 91-year-old Australian arrested in Thailand on underage sex charges are concerned for his well-being. They say he has been denied access to medicine and proper care while in custody.

Karl Kraus, a former South Australian railway worker, says he was the victim of an extortion attempt by Thai authorities, who levelled bogus charges last June when he was arrested for the alleged rape of four young sisters, the youngest of whom was five.

At the time of the arrest, Thai police said they seized pornographic print and electronic images from Mr Kraus's house in Thailand. They said the arrest was part of a wider inquiry into paedophiles in the area.

Get a grip, sexual assault is not just about intercourse. Most cases do not involve intercourse but are every bit as damaging to the victim. This is a scurge on human societies. Clearly abusers are attracted to Thailand because there is opportunity here. Like many other social issues we continue to focus on the punishment aspect instead of attacking it at it core.

Further in the SMH report: Central to Mr Kraus's claims of innocence is that he is accused of sexual offences on December 22, 2009, when he says he was in Australia receiving medical treatment for prostate and bladder cancer.

Has there been any reported verification of this?

Personally, I believe this guy.

A 91 year old suffering from prostrate cancer, one and a half feet in the grave, comeon, let’s be realistic.

The opinion of these parents could be, ah well, the poor old man will die soon anyway, let’s grab his money while the going is good.

Unfortunately, once allegations of this sort have been made, then the police have to do an investigation, especially where there are children involved. This is the same the world over.

But I think the police should not be holding this man in custody, they could confiscate his passport until the cases comes to trial.

I wish I could wave a magic wand that would turn all abusers red and then maybe people would begin to discover the extent of the problem. Only a very small percentage of abusers are ever caught because no society wants to face the problem. If you could see who they are, family members, coworkers and friends and understand that by sweeping the problem under the rug it is in fact multiplying perhaps we could start to do something about it.

Sexual abuse has nothing to do with a persons age or sexuality. It does has to do with a lack of impulse control as a result of the loss of empathy.

Me too!

I heard that from someone very close to the case. There was never any question of him being held in custody.

A top Thai told me the day he was charged: "If he is found guilty I hope he is sent back to Australia at once. We have nowhere suitable to keep a person like this."

I will make some inquiries and get back here soonest.

I thought he paid 450,000 bt bail.

In re-reading the news in the original thread, the news in the OP of this thread, and today's news, it would appear he has been on bail.

He was incarcerated for five days following his arrest in June 2010 and then released on bail.

It now seems clearer that today's article is in reference to his alleging that he was denied proper medical treatment only during those 5 days back in June.

Today's article is also adding that he is now alleging that the 450,000 baht he paid back then was extortion in order to make the charges go away (and was not for bail, by inference).

If they have pics then it's hard for him to deny anything. I have to say he's a remarkably spry 91 year old man to be chasing pre-school kids around the yard for sanook.

Whether he's spritely / can chase the girls around the room not necessarily a factor.

Decades ago a very old western man in a wheelchair and his elderly wife moved into a house in my street (not Thailand). After a few months there were questions being asked about why there was a steady trail of 4 yr olds / 6 yr old girls going into their house.

Bottom line, the elerly wife was luring them into thing them house with sweets, drinks etc., and the old man was exploring them internally with his hands with the wife helping.

Police were called, quickly got enough evidence, both were charged, they were fined very heavily and both quickly deported back to the European country they had recently migrated from.

  • 1 year later...

Who knows the full specific details of what he allegidly did.

I can recall as a late teenager the man who lived in the house across our street, around 85 years old was suddenly charged with 'sexual acts' on young girls (from memory about 3 to 10 yrs old).

It was revealed later that he didn't penetrate them with his organ (because he couldn't get erect), but he did penetrate them with his fingers, at times causing bruising and bleeding, and often performed oral sex, sometimes drawing blood in their genital area and their breast areas.

Considering the age of the young girls, IMHO these offences are just as serious as penetration.

________________________________

A different point, in the instance I mentioned above there was another factor, the old man's wife was in on the whole thing and enjoyed helping her husband and watching the acts. Further investigation revealed they had done all of this over several decades in several locations (he previously performing full penetration). They had their day in court (seperate proceedings) they were both found guilty and were sent a low security correctional centre. They both died quickly (reported in local newspapers).

Do child molesters have a distinctive mark, do they all wear the same clothes? No they don't. It could be the man or woman who appears to be an upstanding member of the community etc. it could be anybody, we all need to be serious about protecting our children. We need to be aware of where they are, who they are with etc., every minute!
