We are U.S. citizens. I'm preparing documents to report the birth of our baby, obtain a passport and SSN. The requirements for a passport say to fill out DS-11 http://goo.gl/wIG4z and when you follow the link you have to fill in a SSN and occupation. Well, we don't have a SSN for him yet so it won't allow you to fill out the form. When you read the requirements for a first time SSN application, it says you need his passport. http://goo.gl/u6gc6

You can't get one without the other. What am I missing? I assume if I just bring my massive stack of legal documents, it will get sorted out at our appointment but I'm trying to be prepared. Thanks.

I have had occasion to help document loaded couple with a tiny baby on the other arm, retrieved pieces of xerox paper flying around the walkway before reaching the right hand entry door.

It is best to put everything in a box or something, just in case.

But not the tiny baby though.

Just to followup, the process was pretty easy. Just show up with all the documents as best prepared as you can. With the appointment, you get in right away. Took about 45 minutes. There was a brief interview at the end I assume because my wife also has Thai nationality. It was nearly identical to the questions they asked when my wife interviewed for a visa several years ago. "How'd you meet? Great! Congratulations." That was basically it.
