Bank Account

Featured Replies

Okay, i am here by way of a tourist visa, not working and living in thai gf's apartment. I am living near to On-Nut and i want to open a basic bank account if possible. Any suggestions please ???

  1. Which is the best bank and location to go to ?
  2. With the least amount of hassel and paperwork ?
  3. What paperwork do i need ?

take ur lady with ya,try bangkok bank ,kasikorn bank

The kbank near nana required me to have a Thai address but could not be a hotel. Just your passport they provide everything else and will show you how to set up pass word and pin

Kasikorn Chiang Mai let me open a basic account with passbook and debit card on the spot by producing my passport with a Tourist visa. I did have my Thai girlfriend with me.

Thank you for all the replies. It looks like everyone is favouring Kasikorn Bank and reading on some of the other forum pages, this seams the case. I'll give it a try in the next week or so.

Once again, many thanks.

Yeah, K-Bank is the way to go for farangs. I opened mine when I first came here on an Entry Stamp and used the hotel as an address. It's costs like 500 baht to open and get an ATM card and 400 baht each year after that, but it's much more convenient to transfer a bunch of money into your Thai bank and withdraw what you need when you need it or use the debit card in shops and restaurants, instead of withdrawing 10k or 20k from your home bank and paying the 150 Baht fine fee each time.

I tried Bangkok Bank and Ayudthya but they both wanted a work permit to open.

Good luck.
