German soccer stadium bomb plot thwarted by police

2011-04-01 05:59:55 GMT+7 (ICT)

BERLIN, GERMANY (BNO NEWS) -- German police on Thursday were able to disable a bomb planted outside the Borussia Dortmund soccer club stadium, officials said.

Germany's Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) told Deutsche Welle that three suspicious objects were located in a parked car near Signal Iduna Park and successfully defused.

The announcement was made only two days after a 25-year-old German was arrested at a hotel in Cologne, Germany, who said he had planted the devices near the stadium. The arrest was the result of ann anonymous call to the German Embassy in Pakistan tipping off authorities of a planned terrorist attack.

However, authorities said the man had no links to a terrorist group and acted on his own. During the arrest, BKA said authorities also seized three other explosive devices and a large amount of chemicals, adding that forensic investigations would be carried out.

Borussia Dortmund later announced that Saturday's game against Hannover 96 would be carried out as scheduled as there was no threat.

Nonetheless, "to ensure that our fans have a safe visit to Saturday's game," announced the club's chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke, "BVB will, as a precautionary measure, further increase security around the Signal Iduna Park in consultation with the police."

So a 25-yr old German is arrested but the tip came in to the German Embassy in PAKISTAN? Why? Is it because this "German" is really a Pakistani with German citizenship and to put that in the report might violate some PC rules?
