Thaksins Wealth Before He Became Pm

Featured Replies

What was Thaksins net worth before he became PM?

I recall he had a few billion dollars then lost a majority in the tech bubble crash.

It would be interesting to know his worth and calculate his stock market gains while in office.

Did his companies outperform the SET?

Is Google down?

Hey, now that you mention it, he was wealthy before he became PM...not that that had anything to do with him becoming PM, of course.blink.gif

Came from a fairly affluent Chiang Mai family but never made any real money till he got married and started getting government contracts. Tripled his (known) assets during his PM ship, though he probably got at least a 10 bagger there. The world financial crisis took a cut him as did the British government. he seems to be making a comeback with Blood Diamonds and Blood Gold.

I knew Thaksin during the early eighties. At that time he was still a relatively lowly Police Captain, although he ran an IBM franchise on the side. He was obviously pretty switched on and ambitious.

Someone had to get rich out of telecoms in Thailand, the government owned service was absolutely pathetic, overpriced and corrupt (people had to pay well over the odds just to get a phone connection).
