The 6.7-magnitude earthquake at 8.11 local time (1311 GMT) was centered about 83 kilometers (51 miles) southwest of Las Choepas, a city in the southeastern extremes of Veracruz state. It struck about 167 kilometers (103 miles) deep, making it a fairly deep earthquake, according to the Mexican Seismological Service. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) measured the strength of the earthquake at 6.5 on the Richter scale and estimated that some 642,000 people likely perceived moderate shaking. It said up to 16 million others may have felt weak to light shaking, including people in some parts of Mexico City. There were, however, no reports of serious damage or casualties. "The review concluded, we have no damage," said Marcelo Ebrard, Head of Mexico's Federal Government. -- © BNO News All rights reserved 2011-04-
