Nudity is NOT only a sexual issue, but also a sociological one- one to which Thais are very sensitive (ironically, considering the more permissive attitudes of only 100 or 150 years ago- it IS a tropical country).

Japanese, despite their economic development and similar Asian culture (issues of face, etc.) have a completely different attitude towards public and private nudity. Group baths in Japan are great places to relax and socialise and are almost entirely asexual. It is only recently that most of them have become sex-segregated (some still are not).

As a gay man, it is ironic to me that since coming to Thailand I find it is easier relative to Japan to find nooky, but much harder to find guys showing off their bods publicly. In fact, there might be a connection- if there's not much chance of anything happening (as in Japan) then no one has to worry about any risk in taking off their clothes. I've seen this argument used to explain the more publicly demonstrative affectionate behavior of more conservative periods of time in the West.

Being just a few that come to mind!

It's a cultural thing ..nothing to do with being gay/straight ..whatever.

I believe that the nudity issue is more a personal thing rather than cultural. Some Thais feel comfortable bieng naked in the showers but it is true that most of them prefer to be covered.

Perhaps it is more widely accepted in the west to be naked around same sex people, but I've got to insist that it is more a personal thing. Personally, I don't like being naked with people around me. It's not that I am ashamed of my body, it's just that I think that some things must be kept in private.

The funny thing is that in Thailand, in the male restrooms, urinals have no dividing barrier and you can literally see when other guys are peeing. I guess most Thais are OK with that, but this is quite uncommon in the west, isn't it?

interesting topic.

i have seen old stone carvings and paintings of semi-nud_e or topless females, some being depicted as dancers while others exist in everyday village-life drawings. was female nudity common in ancient siam, or were those carvings and paintings merely a form of artistic expression?

and then put your tongue between the upper lip(inner side) and - teeth/gum space

now you see an ape naked ...really exotic ... i saw exotic female ape naked sometime when im getting bored
