Thai Yellow Shirts Continue Campaigning For "Vote No"

People's Alliance Continues Campaigning for "Vote No"

The yellow-shirt group continues campaigning for ''Vote No'' in the upcoming election to teach politicians a lesson.

Key leader of the yellow-shirt People's Alliance for Democracy, or PAD, Chamlong Srimuang said another PAD leader Somkiat Pongpaiboon and his team will travel to Khon Kaen province to hold a seminar to promote the group's ''Vote No'' campaign for the upcoming election as the group sees that Thai politics has reached a dead end.

Chamlong stated that the PAD will continue campaigning for ''Vote No'' to teach a lesson to politicians who are planning to enter the parliamentary system dishonorably by buying votes.

The group will campaign to urge the public to vote No, including voting No for the New Politics Party's candidates to demonstrate that the PAD rally has no hidden agenda.

Asked to comment about rumors that the ongoing PAD protest is aimed at obstructing the upcoming poll, Chamlong denied the speculations and insisted that the move only aims at urging Thais to vote No in the next poll.

The PAD leader also complimented the army and the government's stance on the border issue saying that it has been adjusted to a more appropriate direction.

Chamlong's comment came after the army decided not to allow Indonesian troops to observe the Thai-Cambodian border conflict situation in the disputed 4.6-square kilometer area.

The Defense Ministry also decided not to participate in the General Border Committee, or GBC, meeting in Indonesia in a show of stand that the border meeting should be held bilaterally.

So I guess they'll be buying votes for the 'Vote No' campaign too.

Psychologically it will make more people casting their votes than ever before. Wait and see ...

Interesting idea: they know the people won't vote for them because they are bankrupt of any ideas outside the rabble rousing nationalist rhetoric they peddle and they know the democrats are going to lose the election, so they try once again to deflect the issues from rising prices, massive social injustice, out-of-control military expenditure, food shortages, low wages, reckless border wars, and the myriad oither issues that ordinary Thais are really concerned about to a negative ploy that will backfire on them. The Thai people aren't nearly as stupid as the PAD would like to think!

People's Alliance Insists on "Vote No" Campaign

The People's Alliance for Democracy insists on going with its “Vote No“ campaign as there is no hope that the current crop of politicians will help improve the Thai political system.

People's Alliance for Democracy, or PAD, spokesman Parnthep Puapongpan said all first- and second -generation leaders agreed to go ahead with the “Vote No” campaign once the election is announced.

The group feels that there is no hope left for any political party to revamp the political system.

Parnthep commented that the April 10 clash at the Kokwua Intersection last year remains a mystery as the government has not been able to conclude who were responsible for the shooting despite the presence of black-shirt gunmen among red-shirt protesters.

He said there is also no progress with the shooting case of PAD leader Sondhi Limthongkul, which happened two years ago. Parnthep said this reflects the government's inability to handle security issues in the country.

PAD coordinator Praphan Khoonmee said the PAD is not opposing the election with its “Vote No” campaign.

He said the two major political parties have not done anything beneficial for Thai politics as one openly challenges the Monarchy and does not abide by the law while the other does nothing.

Praphan said the government and the military have not shown their efforts to protect the Monarchy.

He noted that the armed forces leaders should not just pay respect to Privy Council President General Prem Tinsulanonda during the holidays but should come out to defend him when he is attacked by antimonarchists.

PAD leader Chamlong Srimuang said the PAD will move up the launch of its “Vote No” campaign from April 20 to this Sunday.
