Indonesian anti-porn lawmaker resigns after caught with porn in plenary session

JAKARTA, INDONESIA (BNO NEWS) -- Indonesian anti-porn lawmaker Arifinto on Monday announced his resignation after being caught viewing pornography last week during a House of Representatives plenary session.

Arifinto is one of the founders of the Justice Party that later merged with the Prosperous Justice Party that has advocated for Indonesia's 2008 Anti-Pornography Law.

Speaking at the House, Arifinto announced that he would soon file his resignation as a member of the House of Representatives to his political party, for the sake of himself and his party's honor, adding that no one or any other elements coerced him to make the decision, the Jakarta Globe reported.

Arifinto has claimed that he unexpectedly stumbled into pornographic material after clicking on a link in an email he had received. However, Indonesia's Communications and Information Technology Ministry said a forensic investigation would be conducted to determine whether Arifinto's claims are true or whether the material had been previously stored in his tablet computer.

In addition, the Shariah Board is expected to dismiss Arifinto, who had served as a member of the party's advisory council that sets its policies. Furthermore, the board reportedly demanded him to perform repentance by asking for God's forgiveness 100 times within 40 days, reading the entire Koran within 30 days and giving alms to 60 poor people.
