Might I Be Able To Ask What Does อริศรา สาริบุตร Mean?

Featured Replies

Thanks.

อริศรา สาริบุตร

I think it's a name

the first word looks like 'arisara'? possibly pronounced 'alisara'? Which would lead me to believe that the second word is also a name...'saribudt' ? I'm not familiar with as a final consonant without the 'garan' so I don't know how to pronounce it properly,

but I'm fairly confident the whole thing is a name :)

Someone else will surely chime in with the right information soon enough :)

It sure looks like a first and last to me too! :)

Sadly, I'm far from the "sharpest knife" in the drawer when it comes to the Thai language on here :(. I couldn't work out how to pronounce the last word with certainty either.

FWIW; plugging it into Thai-Language dot com's bulk look-up feature yielded this as far as pronunciation;

อริศรา (aL riH saL raaM) สาริบุตร (saaR riH bootL).

The first word came up as having only one meaning; Alisara (a Thai given name)

The second word got broken into three words. Interestingly enough the last part of that word บุตร was listed as the word which means "offspring, child, son/daughter". It very well could be the last part of a name kinda denoting; "child of สาริ".

I'm sure other more learned posters will weigh in soon. ..

Good Luck. .. :)

อริศรา:

อริ = enemy

ศรา (short for อิศรา) = conqueror

อริศรา = conqueror over enemy

สาริบุตร (son of sari) was the name of the wisest of all Buddha's apostles and สาริบุตร comes to mean wisdom, knowledge. :jap:

Interesting translation.

Based on the replies above I think it is indeed someone's name. I got this thai text above in an email from some social networking site, that of course doesn't post any i.d. information but asks you to subscribe in order to 'find out more' or some implication. The last time I responded to another one, I realized it was a setup as I got a bunch of solicitations for weeks, and the person who had 'sent' it, told me they did no such thing when I finally mailed them directly, and they knew nothing of the company (sonico.com).

Thanks again!
