My Bravia LCD screen TV has developed what I believe is a power supply problem, possibly a capacitor or similar component breaking down and sending a spike through the system which switches the machine off.

I can watch about 1 hour in the morning before it heats up, breaks down and switches off. In the heat of the evening I can only watch about 10 mins.

The machine is outside warranty so my question is should I call out a Sony repairman, who will probably recommend changing out the whole of the power supply for XXXX baht, or should I try a local repair man who might be able to isolate the faulty component for only XXX baht.

Any advice welcome.

I had similar fault with my Samsung LCD when a Jing Jok crawled in the back and shorted out the power supply.

My local TV repair shophouse was able to repair for a quarter of the price quoted by the Samsung repair agents. They can usually find the parts needed whatever the brand
